Dr Mimi Chen is a Consultant Endocrinologist specialising in Diabetes Mellitus and Bariatric Medicine. She completed her medical degree at the University of Liverpool in 2000, subsequently completing her specialist training in Diabetes and Endocrinology in Bristol. She also completed training in Bariatric Medicine at the International Centre of Excellence for Bariatric Service in Taunton.

Following her training in Bariatric Medicine, Dr Chen was awarded a PhD by the University of Bristol for her research work. As a testament to her expertise, Dr Chen was awarded a number of research grants and was the Principle Investigator on several clinical trials. She has also published her work in high-impact peer-reviewed journals, as well as authored many book chapters in her field of expertise. Dr Chen remains an active researcher and holds the position of Senior Clinical Researcher at St George’s University Hospitals London.

In her current clinical practice, Dr Chen manages patients with type 2 diabetes, weight issues and endocrine disorders. She works closely with a multidisciplinary team of anaesthetists and surgeons in the perioperative diabetes initiative in order to improve diabetes care in her NHS Trust. In response to her passion for improved diabetes care, she was selected as the Diabetes UK Clinical Champion. Outside of her clinical work, Dr Chen trains both undergraduate and postgraduate medical students and healthcare professionals in diabetes. She is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer at St George's, University of London.
